Ever since the new Legend of Zelda game for Wii U was announced at E3, people have been in doubt whether the lead character was actually Link or some other female character.
While Eiji Aonuma did try to clarify that it actually was Link back in June, the rumors were still in the air. Now, he has once again refuted all such rumors.
I seriously agree with him that he ‘should watch what [he] says.’ Nonetheless, it was more of a rumor mill grind that resulted in the fears of Link being replaced by a girl in the upcoming Zelda game.
The statement that Aonuma gave to Edge in their latest edition was slightly different from what he had said back in June though:
“I purposely tried not to talk too much about the new game at this year’s E3. That’s because I was not in a position to give clear information about what kind of game it is, and also because, by doing so, I wanted to gauge people’s reactions as they tried to get an idea about this new game. This reaction from fans is something I would like to take into consideration as we proceed with development – although that doesn’t mean we are going to change the main character to a girl.”
I guess that should settle all the doubts that some of you might still have in your hearts, though I would also like to know (as Aonuma stated back in June), whether you would like a female lead character in a Legend of Zelda title or not.
