The recently announced Warlords of the Draenor, the next expansion for Blizzard’s World Of Warcraft is still a few months away from release but its follow-up is already in the works as Game Director Tom Chilton told Gameplanet in an interview.
“We are already in progress with our next expansion. We already have zones in production for it. Our next expansion after that, we have a couple of different options that we’ll be choosing between over the next several months. Beyond that, there are about six or seven different ideas for expansions that we can take elements of and say, ‘You know what? Let’s take that and put it in this one for our next expansion after the next one.’ Or we might shift the timelines around from what we originally envisioned. There’s easily 10 years worth of stuff that we can draw from – more, really.”
Furthermore, in a new interview with Polygon Blizzard Entertainment’s President Mike Morhaime said that the company will increase the speed at which it releases new content to keep the game relevant among players and maintain engagement within the game so they keep coming back on a regular basis.
“It’s going to be on us and our development team to continually look at ways to evolve the game and keep it relevant,” Morhaime said. “And look for new ways of maintaining engagement within the game. We view expansions as a huge opportunity to do that.
“We recognize that we need to release them on a faster cadence than we have in the past,” he added. “So we’re investing in the team and our resources to enable us to do that.”
World Of Warcraft has been around for a really long time and the game still offers a ton of fresh content to keep the players interested in playing. It is unlikely that we will hear some information regarding this new expansion at Blizzcon this year but we should keep our fingers crossed.
