In a surprising announcement at Gamescom during Microsoft’s Press Conference, Phil Spencer revealed Rise of The Tomb Raider as an exclusive (timed) for Xbox One.
But, his words were open for interpretation as he said that the game was exclusive in holiday 2015 which lead to obvious speculations that Tomb Raider is a timed exclusive and later on Spencer also stated that “The deal has a duration”.
That was Microsoft’s side of the story but what does Sony has to say on the matter?. In an interview Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida commented on the situation and said that the company was not aware of this deal between Microsoft and Crystal Dynamics. “How could we know?” he said.
When asked about his reactions on the overall Microsoft’s Press Conference he replied:
“I was like, ah yeah, they’re going deeper into the games already announced, you know, same kind of lineup, until they talked about Tomb Raider being exclusive. It’s very interesting the way Phil Spencer said, what we are saying is, in holiday 2015 Tomb Raider is exclusive to Xbox. So it’s open to interpretation. But still, we didn’t anticipate something like this would happen.”
Furthermore, he shared his thoughts about the possibility of fans eventually seeing Rise Of The Tomb Raider on PS4.
“That question has to be asked to Square Enix and Microsoft. I hope the game will come out eventually on PS4. But how can I tell? Other than that cryptic message by Phil Spencer.”
The Tomb Raider franchise got its success mainly from PlayStation platforms and it being an Xbox One Exclusive (Timed) came as a shock to Lara Croft’s fans on PS4. So far we don’t know for how long the exclusive deal will stand and when will the game be available on PS4.
