Crytek revealed a brand new VR demo at Gamescom this week.
Demo which takes place in a wooded environment and helicopter flying all over, used the Oculus Rift VR head-mounted display’s second development kit. It is a very linear demo and shows us the CryEngine 3’s potential with VR for the high graphical fidelity.
The demo which was build in Crytek’s Frankfurt office, is confirmed to be running at a smooth 100 frames per second and locked to Development Kit 2’s 75hz.
Indie developer Johan Pruijs started a kickstarter campaign earlier this week to raise money for his VR fitness title Porco Grande which will be build using Crytek’s Engine.
How much support will CryEngine 3 get regarding VR development is hard to tell this early. The Engine has showed promise with its recent VR demo at Gamescom and definitely has the potential to compete with Epic Game’s Unreal Engine 4 and Unity Technologies “Unity Engine” which are relatively more popular for VR development.
