Diablo 3 Patch 2.1.0 will introduce “The Vault” of the Goblins. These creatures appear out of nowhere through a portal and collect the “loot of the Fallen”.
And as quickly as they appear, they depart carrying the scavenged goods along with them. Though once the players are able to slay one of these beast, they will be given access to the vault through a portal.
The Vault is filled with immense wealth looted by the Goblins according to the patch preview:
In the Vault, players will encounter unimaginable wealth, presumably stolen from the merchants and townfolk of Sanctuary. Piles of gold, chests brimming with treasure, and enough gems to sate even Shen himself will reward your curiosity.
Lead environment artist Richie Marella said:
The inspiration for the Vault was a mixture of a couple of things: a beehive, the Lord of the Rings, and Scrooge McDuck’s infamous Money Pit.
Furthermore, senior level designer Matthew Berger added:
The fight with Greed itself evolved fairly naturally as we played it internally.
So far the players have been unable to enter these portals used by the Goblins to escape pursuit.
However, with the release of this patch, Goblins might leave a portal open when they die and when that happens, players will be able to go through the portal and into the Vault.
Diablo 3 Patch 2.1.0 is currently being tested on the Public Test Server and will go live sometime later this month.
