The Walking Dead fans, whether TV series, comics or games, can rejoice because it seems there is another game set in the highly popular universe under development.
The post-apocalyptic zombie franchise has seen a few game releases however most of them have been lack luster with the exception of the episodic Tell Tale Games developed title.
In an open letter, Robert Kirkman of Skybound Entertainment, the company book publisher behind The Walking Dead comics has announced that Skybound will be working closely with Overkill, developers of Payday 2 to create a new Walking Dead game.
Payday franchise is famous for its co-op gameplay and Payday 2 took that to a whole new level. Well all that will soon be coming to the zombie universe as Overkill’s The Walking Dead is a co-op first person shooter with elements of action, role-playing, survival horror and stealth.
Since Payday 2 and The Walking Dead are from the same developers, there will inevitably be cross overs between both games, however for now it’s unclear whether they will be limited to just weapons and gear or will even include characters or not (Zombie cops in Payday 2!)
Overkill’s The Walking Dead is set for a 2016 release date and Payday 2 owners will be able to get a free melee weapon “Lucille” baseball bat from The Walking Dead to commemorate this announcement.
More details about the game can be seen here at the official website.
