During Sony’s Gamescom 2014 press conference today, PixelJunk’s developer Q-Games announced The Tomorrow Children as an exclusive title for the PlayStation 4.
The game takes place in a future “re-imagined from the after effects of an experiment in 1960s Russia that attempted to sublime the human race.”
The process would merge and link all human minds into a single consciousness. However, as it happens in such scenarios, the experiment goes horribly wrong and ends up destroying the planet.
It takes the next 90 years for the few humans left to rebuild to the point where they have created you, the player, as a ‘projection clone’. Now you’re tasked with venturing out into ‘The Void’ to reclaim and restore the human race.
“The human race will only survive if we cooperate, and as you do things your projection will become briefly visible in other player’s realities,” Q-Games head Dylan Cuthbert wrote on the PlayStation Blog. “Everything you do to manipulate the world is shared with everyone else in each stage.”
The game will promote exploration and diverse crafting mechanics, where the right materials can be combined to craft buildings and weapons. The overall goal is to restore the human population, but ultimately players will have to work together to achieve it.
