Insomniac Games’ Xbox One exclusive, Sunset Overdrive is not only about vibrant themes, wandering aimlessly through the open-world, or showcasing your parkour skills, but a huge chunk of the game focuses on co-op multiplayer.
While discussing online matchmaking with other players, the game’s director Drew Murray stated that Xbox One cloud servers come in very handy in multiplayer mode, Chaos Squad.
Murray stated that the game utilizes cloud and dedicated servers to load the entire city on the servers and yield a seamless multiplayer experience:
Developing Sunset Overdrive for Xbox One allows us to take advantage of next-generation processing power, which enables the intense, high velocity gameplay and massive open world experience.
A great example of this is how we used the cloud and dedicated servers for Sunset Overdrive to enable fast, reliable matchmaking for Chaos Squad, our epic eight-player open-world co-op experience, by loading the entire city on the server.
Murray also talked about how Xbox One allowed them to create their first open-world title, not only in terms of distance, but also verticality along with a character customization system:
We’re doing so many things that we’ve never done as a studio before – our first open-world game, our first character customization system.
It seems like with each day passing, more titles are getting benefits from Xbox One Cloud Servers which indicates that Microsoft is headed in the right direction.
Sunset Overdrive launches on Oct. 28, 2014 exclusively for the Xbox One.
