In a new blog post made on the official Bungie website, the developer has reminded us that beta characters and associated loot won’t transfer over to the main game.
Beta phases are merely done for collecting data.
A developer gets to do a soft launch, stress test servers, work out kinks in the system and get enough data to do major balance tweaks. However, sometimes the developer feels that the beta is balanced enough to let character progressions go through.
In most cases though, all accounts created during a beta are wiped clean upon its end. It’s going to be the same with Destiny.
“Our Beta characters won’t transfer to the final version of Destiny,” wrote Bungie. “The vaults have been cleaned out, too.”
Designer Tyson Green explained that throughout the beta plenty of changes have been done to adjust several aspects. “The way you earn experience has been adjusted up and down a bunch of times.
Items have been added and removed. New features toggled. Although there’s no single monumental change, the sum of the tweaks leaves characters from the Beta Build in strange shape that would be confusing at best, broken at worst.”
The main game is going to be nothing like the beta and will offer players a fresh and new start.
Destiny is scheduled for launch on September 9 for the PS4, PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360. Its release will be accompanied by a special PlayStation 4 bundle that will not only include a copy of the game, but also a white colored console.
