In the wake of the success Naughty Dog achieved with The Last of Us, many fans had started wondering whether the studio will carry forward the dark storyline approach into Uncharted 4.
Previously known for games like Crash Bandicoot and Jak & Daxter that featured a more lively and happier themed storyline, everyone was surprised with what The Last of Us had to offer. It was a refreshing change and was accepted by everyone.
In a recent interview with Eurogamer, Co-President of Naughty Dog Evan Wells clarified that they have no intention of putting in a “dark, grim” themed storyline in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
He said that “Uncharted is a completely different franchise, and appeals to its audience for completely different reasons.”
“I don’t think The Last of Us marks a new direction in tone that all of our future games are going to take on,” he continued. “We’d alienate a lot of our Uncharted fans. We want to keep it a light-hearted romp. I think from a technical standpoint we’ve learnt some things from the Last of Us that will feed into Uncharted – in fact it strengthens our desire to keep them distinct.”
So the new Uncharted will continue to bank on the style of its predecessors. So far the developers have praised the game’s visual capabilities but we’ve yet to see any actual in-game footage. Somehow I’m certain that Naughty Dog will not disappoint us with the new and probably the last Uncharted title.
