Diesel Fashion Brand Thinks Dieselstormers Shooter Could Be Confusing

Developer Black Forest Games recently put up their side-scrolling shooter Dieselstormers on Steam through Early Access. Late last week, the company was met with a strange letter from fashion brand Diesel, concerning the name of the game.

In the letter, Diesel contests the trademark filing for Dieselstormers. It states that should the game be recognized, it would create confusion.

Diesel is mostly known for their clothing brand, particularly their line of jeans. Unbeknown to us, the company also has games. We’ve never seen any, but they probably exist, somewhere.

Now, Black Forest Games is forced to wait for a ruling by the Office for the Harmonization in the Internal Market. It will determine if this contest is sound or not.

In any case, the Dieselstormers developer is positive that it will reach an agreement with Diesel at some point. In a response, the company comments with the following:

Black Forest have no intent to create clothing under the Dieselstormers brand — and the “Diesel” part of Dieselstormers refers to the liquid fuel type of the same name and is not a parody of the fashion brand.

Andreas Speer of Black Forest Games continues this positive spirit with by saying:

The history of the Dieselstormers project is full of challenges. This dispute is simply one more thing to overcome, but we will not be deterred in our will to make a great game.

If only every company was this laid back about bureaucratic issues, instead of immediately engaging in litigious aggressiveness.

Dieselstormers is €18.99 on Early Access right now. It looks pretty entertaining, with a lot of randomized content in loot and gameplay mechanisms.
