Areal Suspended From Kickstarter, Funding Will Continue Via Official Website

Areal, the game under development at West Games has been constantly bombarded by the other members of Vostok who have been claiming that the whole Areal project is a scam to get money out of the people.

So that you understand, over the years of development of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and then Metro series, there have been literally hundreds of people involved in working on various bits and pieces, starting from beta-testers up to modellers responsible for certain weapon models.

Many people came to the studio to work for a few months just for the sake of adding “S.T.A.L.K.E.R. development” to their portfolio. Frequently they claimed afterwards to be the ‘core’ developers behind the game (you wouldn’t know anyway, right?)

After the reports of this project being a scam hit the internet, the whole process of funding was slowed down. However, in interesting turn of events, Areal managed to receive a total of $26000 this weekend by just two backers, which raises even more speculations about the legitimacy of this new title.

Furthermore, responses from West Games to the criticism have always been vague, as sometimes they just blamed the websites for doing biased journalism and sometimes they just referenced the previous titles that they have worked on, but nothing on the subject was said or anything related to Areal was shown, which surely would have turn the tide in the developer’s favor.

As of today, Areal has been suspended from the Kickstarter and there will be no further funding.

In the wake of this announcement, developers have sent a message to the whole world through its Facebook page, where they wrote that due to war between Ukraine and Russia, Russian Kickstarter accounts have been constantly showing hostile behaviors towards them.

Moreover, the statement reads that the companies that make their living off STALKER saw us as a threat and this was the reason for them to go against us.

Just before it got suspended from Kickstarter, Areal had received more had $64K including the mysterious $26K, the amount which was given by just two backers.

Now, West Games is looking to get more funding through its official website, but it seems highly unlikely that people will support this game before developers show anything concrete regarding the development of the game.

What is your take on Areal? Do you think it’s a Scam?
