Do you know that now you will be able to transfer your Nintendo ID and all the content from one Wii U to the other? Yes, this feature was added to the console along a couple of other tweaks through the recently released Wii U System Update 5.1.0.

The Wii U System Update 5.1.0 isn’t a huge one like most of their system updates. However, here is the list of the new features that you can expect to see on the console from now on:

  • Wii U to Wii U System Transfer has been introduced meaning that users can now transfer (move) all software and data from one Wii U to another
  • A “System Transfer” option has been added within System Settings
  • Users can now navigate the Nintendo eShop using a Wii Remote, Wii U Pro Controller, or Classic Controller
  • Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience

Out of these, the major change is of course the System Transfer option which is a new thing. If you are wondering how this is going to play out, Nintendo has also published a FAQ page on the Nintendo of America Support Page.

Highlights of the matter are that when you wish to transfer data using the feature, you will have to transfer ‘all content,’ meaning you cannot just transfer one user or a specific Nintendo Network ID. Moreover, all the data on the second Wii U will be lost and replaced, the source Wii U will also get formatted. You can relink the previous Nintendo IDs with the target Wii U later on.
