The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Is Playstation-Only In Japan

According to reports from Siliconera, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be coming to Japan as a Playstation exclusive. There, the movie tie-in doesn’t seem to be as important as in other regions, since Western versions of the game released last month already.

Additionally, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will not be localized to Japan through Activision. Instead, publisher Square Enix will throw money at the release.

A previous release for the comic book hero in Japan dates back to Spider-Man 2, which was brought there under Taito. That company is now a subsidiary of Square Enix, so it’s somewhat of a circle in time.

Upon its main release, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was brought to Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC, Playstation 4 and Playstation 3. For Japan, only the PS3 and PS4 versions of the game will remain, regardless of Nintendo holding a sizable user base there.

Additionally, Japanese players will need to wait until September 4 to play The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on a Playstation device. It will come with Japanese subtitles, along with English voices.

Despite the move to go ahead with localization, it’s doubtful that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will make that much of an impact. At least, when it first released it didn’t manage to persuade a lot of critics.

Currently, the game is hovering somewhere above or below a score of 50 on Metacritic. That doesn’t exactly exude confidence.
