League of Legends Championship Series Gets new Playoff Structure

The way League of Legends Championship Series is held has always been a hot topic among the fans. Naturally, the game is huge and there is bound to be difference of opinions among the players. However, Riot Games chooses what they think suits the championships best, and now they have announced a new palyoffs structure.

First off, Chief of eSports at Riot, Nick Allen has confirmed recently that all the quarterfinals and semifinals are going to be best of five. There have been instances in the past when hot favorite teams clashed and everyone wished that the matches were a best of five for instance the Cloud9 vs. TSM bout.

“The playoff quarterfinals will happen the week before PAX in the LCS Studio. The remainder of the NA Regionals playoffs and the 5th place match will take place in Seattle. All playoff matches and the IWC matchup at PAX will be best of five games.”

Other than this Riot Games also announced that the host of European League of Legends Championship Series Summer Playoffs was going to be this year’s Gamescom at Cologne. The event is going to be held from August 13 to August 17 and only the best of the teams are going to make it.

Here’s an excerpt from the official announcement:

“In case Germany hasn’t had enough sports excitement this summer with its dominant showing in the World Cup, we’re bringing League of Legends and the EU LCS Regionals to Gamescom, 13-17 August. Perhaps Striker Lucian will even make an appearance to showcase his unique approach to game-winning shootouts.”
