Far Cry 4 Players Will Require Oxygen Supplies to Reach High Altitudes

As previously known, Far Cry 4 is going to be set in the Himalayas in a fictional town called Kyrat. This is the first time that the series has opted to leave the usual jungle terrain for an ice-capped setting. Narrative Director Mark Thompson has revealed as to why they chose the specific setting.

In a recent interview Thompson said that they wanted to “have an accompanying refresh in visuals for the environment” and hence chose to move to the mountainous region setting.

“The world is a lot more vertical which gives us a lot more new gameplay opportunities,” he further said. “It allows us to add new features like the gyrocopter, the grappling, or climbing system.”

The last title in the series focused somewhat on predatory animals and hunting. The vertical environment now gives the developer the freedom to add new animals that can attack from above, like the eagle.

Thompson also teased that some portions of the mountains feature less oxygen and hence players will need to have an oxygen supply to reach that altitude.

“Later on when you start to get to the tops of those mountains, we start to play with the environment a little bit, we have lizards. Some places you even need to use oxygen to get to that altitude”

Following in a most boring Far Cry 2, Far Cry 3 was a fresh experience for fans of the franchise. The latest installment so far looks to raise the bar even higher when it releases later this year for all major platforms.
