GTA IV: Patch 1.07 Shifts Online Play From GameSpy to Sony

By   /   Jun 16, 2014

The closure of GameSpy and its relative support for online servers in May led to many different Rockstar titles losing their online functionality. B

ack then Rockstar stated that Grand Theft Auto IV’s main online multiplayer would be unaffected by this. However, the game’s Social Club website stat tracking and leaderboards, as well as in-game multiplayer leaderboards, had to ultimately be removed.

Rockstar’s release of patch 1.07 for GTA IV today officially marks the game’s online play to have been shifted from GameSpy to Sony’s online matchmaking service.

The patch notes or note contains a single change: “Removal of GameSpy online service, which has been replaced by Sony Matchmaking Service.”

Please Note: This Title Update is 1.08 for the main GTA IV North American version. Here are the versions for EFLC and other regions.

  • Grand Theft Auto IV North American and European – 1.07
  • Gtand Theft Auto IV Japanese – 1.03
  • Episodes from Liberty City (all regions) – 1.01
  • Grand Theft Auto IV Complete (all regions) – 1.01

As of 6/13/14, these updates are all live except for Episodes from Liberty City. We will update this article when all Title Updates are live.

Without a doubt Rockstar is pretty busy with the support for GTA V and its next-gen and PC release later this year and it’s good to see the studio take time out to tie up this lose end for GTA IV.
