No, the name ‘THQ’ is not dead yet and we’ll be seeing ‘Published by THQ’ a lot more than many of us expected. Austria-based publisher, Nordic Games has not only bought most of the THQ titles, but also its name with the intention of releasing games under THQ’s banner.
In an interview with Polygon, Nordic Games General Manager Klemens Kruezer stated that it was a surprise for many gaming industry veterans that Nordic Games had won the auction of many THQ titles.
He continued by saying that he came across several headlines reading, ‘who the f*** is Nordic Games?’ due to the fact that most people didn’t know what Nordic Games was before THQ’s auction.
Kruezer admitted that following the THQ’s auction, he has seen some uplift in Nordic Games’ name:
We have seen an uplift in the name of Nordic Games, and what we have also done is we have made a second deal with THQ where we bought the THQ trademark.
Among the titles that Austrian publisher bought – Darksiders, Red Faction, MX vs. ATV, Destroy All Humans!, Summoner, Marvel Super Hero Squad, and Supreme Commander – fans are mostly rooting for Darksiders. Speaking of the game, Kruezer said that they expect patience from the fans as they don’t want to rush the game’s sequel:
This is where we need some more patience from the fans, because we want to be able to do it right. The owner of Nordic Games has given [interviews] where he has said that he doesn’t want to make a shitty sequel.
That being said, fans should expect more information on new Darksiders game at Gamescom which is scheduled for August, 2014.
