There Will Never be a League of Legends 2, Says Riot Games
We all know how MMO lovers are doting over League of Legends. Naturally when you like a game that much, at some point you will wonder if there will be another one in the series. LoL is no different and if you have been thinking about League of Legends 2, you are no different than many others either.
However, Riot Games is probably not going to follow up on your wish for another LoL game.
Now I am not saying that the current game is old or we are done with it – far from it in fact. Yet, no matter how old this game gets, you will always be playing League of Legends, and not League of Legends 2.
The reasons for this decision lay in the developer’s ideology of a digital only business model. The game will neither require, nor get a sequel. This was reiterated by Riot Games’ senior environment artist Brent Critchfield who told Polygon at E3 that “[he wants his] great grandchildren playing this game.”
There are other online only games that stand opposed to this idea though, for instance Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls. However, League of Legends is Riot Gams’ first and only release and it looks like they want to keep it that way for some time at least.
Instead of League of Legends 2, the current game will be continually updated like usual.
Of course that doesn’t mean that Riot Games will not release a new IP, though they are still silent on that front as well. Let’s see what the future has in store.
Would you have liked to see a League of Legends 2? Or are you content with what we have right now?
