Dota 2: Evil Geniuses Wins The Summit

By   /   Jun 11, 2014

Another premier event before The International 4 has ended.

The tournament was hosted by the good folks of the Beyond The Summit, and it was played entirely inside its Studio house in Los Angeles, USA.

Its prizepool initially started at $80.000 but with the DotaTV ticket sales, fans have boosted its amount to over $130.000!

Na’Vi and Team DK were the invited teams while the other 4 teams that qualified for it were: Fnatic, North American Rejects (who got picked up by Na’Vi and much to the general confusion they became Na’Vi.NA), Evil Geniuses and Vici Gaming.

The Grand Finals was a best of 5 series played between Team DK who pretty much dominated the tournament until this point (being only beaten by Fnatic in the Round Robin stage) and the USA pride, EG who had a fearsome run in their way through the lower bracket and managed to 2-0 Fnatic, then 2-0 Na’Vi and then defeated VG 2-1 in the lower bracket finals.

This series went all the way to the distance and ended in a very close 3-2 result favoring the North American squad Evil Geniuses. And as you can see in the above picture, the winning ceremony was done in the casting couch and the winners were awarded with $3 ribbons bought on the previous day in the super market.

Besides the super expensive ribbons , the prizes and standings are the following:

  • 1st place $46.000 – EG
  • 2nd place $25.000 – DK
  • 3rd place $15.000 – VG
  • 4th place $10.000 – Na’Vi
  • 5th/6th place $2.500 – Fnatic and Na’Vi.NA

All of the games, including an All-Star 5v5 Pudge match, interviews and lots of extra content, can be watched and rewatched in this playlist made by the BTS folks on their Youtube channel.

The last major tournament incoming before The International 4 will be the ESL One Finals in Frankfurt, Germany in the Commerzbank Arena, a football stadium with a capacity for around 52.000 spectators!!

It will begin n the 28th of June and its prizepool is currently around $200.000 and it’s still rising through the sales of DotaTV tickets.

Lastly the invited teams are half of the TI4 teams and they are: Na’Vi, Alliance, Cloud9, Invictus Gaming, Vici Gaming, mousesports, Fnatic and Evil Geniuses. So with such a start studded team roster and a promisingly huge production value, be sure not to miss the action!
