Rare, the studio behind the recently released Xbox One exclusive Kinect Sports Rivals has hit with layoffs.
Eurogamer reports that the developer of well acclaimed series suffered this fate because the latest iteration in the series couldn’t do so well in the market.
Microsoft’s spokesperson commented on the situation:
At Xbox, our goal is to constantly create new fun, social and interactive entertainment experiences.
As part of Rare’s commitment to this goal, we have made a decision to change our development process and methodology at Rare to best support our future projects, this has led to us reviewing the skills and the makeup of our development teams in our business.
Rare continues to invest in our people and future projects.
However, Microsoft did not mention anything regarding the number of people that have been let go due to this crisis.
Furthermore, sources of CVG claim that fewer than 20 employees of the studio will leave the organization including the veteran programmer Chris Sutherland, who has worked on some well-known titles like Donkey Kong Country and Battletoads at Rare for over twenty years.
There are some major changes going on at Microsoft since last week but we hope that none of them compromises the upcoming plans of the company.
