Welsh developer Dakko Dakko will release its oddly named game, Scram Kitty and his Buddy on Rails, on Nintendo Wii this May 15 in Europe and North America. It will cost €9.99 or $9.99 on the eShop. Those are not the same, but it’s standard practice by now.
Aside from the kooky name, Scram Kitty and his Buddy on Rails also has some unique design ideas. It’s a platform game that’s also a shoot ‘em up.
In order to accommodate this weird hybrid, the game has platform elements that work in 360 degrees. Players are able to latch onto any rail surface and roll around, whichever the direction.
With the added mobility, Scram Kitty and his Buddy on Rails is able to offer weaponry that also has a 360° range of motion. This includes rockets or flashy lasers.
Colorful environments make the side-scrolling game looks like a Japanese commercial. It has a similar drawn style with saccharine accents. It’s pretty damn cute, if you ignore all the explosions.
For those who really want to spice up their game, Scram Kitty and his Buddy on Rails offers a Challenge Mode. Here, the objective turns into a race against time. Scores can then be shared through Nintendo’s Miiverse community.
It’s about time to get some clarity on this strange title. Scram Kitty and his Buddy on Rails was one of the few third party games that actually got a blip during Nintendo’s E3 2013 presentation, which was held off-stage for once.
