After recently releasing their extremely popular digital card game, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft on iPad, Blizzard already has their eyes set over the horizon and are considering releasing the game on PS4 and Xbox One.
Despite having previously denied any plans of launching the game on consoles, Blizzard recently sent a survey to Hearthstone players, seeking feedback on current as well as upcoming features. One of the questions in the survey was regarding which platform the players would like to see the game released in the future, Xbox One and PS4 being two of the options.
Other questions on the survey also suggest the possibility of an Android release, which however will probably take time due to the open source nature of the OS resulting in a wide variety of Android tablets.
In addition to the platforms, the survey also hinted at social network integration, live streaming of tournaments suggesting Twitch integration, ‘Observer” mode which as the name suggests would work like Spectator mode in other games.
Since both Xbox One and PS4 also support Twitch broadcasting, it is interesting to see Blizzard looking into that if they are considering a release on consoles.
Previously being almost exclusively working on games for PC (besides a few exceptions like the recent Diablo 3 port), console market is relatively new ground for Blizzard.
But with their years of experience in highly successful and revered games like World of Warcraft and Starcraft 2, and the backing of over 4000 people working for the company, it is possible for Blizzard to come up with something for consoles. Perhaps the upcoming E3 would prove to be a nice testing ground for the company.
