With the release of PlayStation 4 firmware update 1.70, the PlayStation App also got updated to version 1.70. However, that is not the only companion app that made it to the news today, a newer version of the Xbox One SmartGlass Beta has also been released by Microsoft.
Available on Google Play for free, the Xbox One SmartGlass Beta adds some new features to the app along with undergoing bug fixes on a large scale. Here are the additional features in question:
- OneGuide support built into SmartGlass
- View what is on TV without interrupting what you are doing on your Xbox One
- Change TV channels on your Xbox One through OneGuide on SmartGlass
- Find and favourite TV Channels
- TV Universal Remote Control to control your Cable Box and TV
Moreover, the developers have already listed some of the known issues that you might face in the Xbox One SmartGlass Beta. For instance, some buttons might not work in Cable/TV remote, TV listings and recent channels syncing between the app and the console isn’t consistent, there might be out of date or missing strings, there might be blank screens when you exit the Cable/ TV remote and OneGuide might have issues when used in countries other than the US.
Lastly, they have asked users to try and browse OneGuide, go to a show from OneGuide, try and get in depth information about specific shows, choose channels as Favorite, use the Cable/ TV remote and surf the cable box UI with it, try using the recent channels panel and try changing HD/ SD settings. Your feedback obviously will help in improving the app in the future.
