Adventure game, The Last Tinker: City of Colors, has received a release date and will be heading towards Steam on May 12, 2014 for a price of €19.99. Preorders are available now and come with a free soundtrack for early adopters.
This adventure from independent studio Mimimi Productions has already been turning a few heads during its marketing campaign. Previously, The Last Tinker won the Best in Show award at Casual Connect 2014 in Amsterdam.
Its story revolves around someone called Koru, who resides in Colortown. There, a division between different colors has led to tensions, as the alienation breeds contempt for those with another appearance.
By wielding the power of a “tinker,” Koru will be able to reunite the colorful town characters, but not before facing a series of puzzles and other perils. All of this is set in lush environments, made out of thick cardboard textures.
Fighting among colors is a metaphor for The Last Tinker to address tough topics, like racism and intolerance. Don’t worry; it does so in a much more subtle way than Bioshock Infinite, for instance.
Outside of puzzles, which can enlist the aid of a strange mushroom creature, there are also some action sequences, which include riding across vines, like in Sonic games. There is a lot of variety in this platform adventure.
From what we’ve played so far, we’re totally on board with the critical acclaim for The Last Tinker: City of Colors so far. We’ll see how that translates in the full release.
