Publisher Iceberg Interactive announced another sizable update for Starpoint Gemini 2 on Steam, while it’s in ongoing development through the Early Access program. In update v0.7003, this universal strategy game gets extended in a variety of ways once again.
Its most prominent feature is the welcoming of Steam Workshop, which allows gamers to form their own mods of Starpoint Gemini 2. Creations can easily be shared through the workshop, where others can simply subscribe to access the content.
In regards to the Steam Workshop implementation, Danijel Mihokovic of developer Little Green Men Games stated:
Modding is at the heart of Starpoint Gemini 2 and we have done, and will continue to do everything possible to open up [Starpoint Gemini 2] and allow virtually anything to be changed, tweaked and improved by the community.
Additionally, Starpoint Gemini 2 now has cosmic junkyards floating around. These could lead to some loot for your ship or, you know, junk.
Another neat element is the arrival of global events. Not all events have been activated so far, but it should ramp up from now on. Events are accompanied by a News item, to ensure players of the goings on.
Getting the global events working, however, has put a strain on the campaign progress for Starpoint Gemini 2 development cycle. In the update post, the developer mentions:
Implementing the features […] took a bit more time than planned, meaning Campaign was pushed into backstage again. We apologize for that, but once we started working on global events, we couldn’t stop.
Lastly, cloaking is now active as well, so you can sneak up with your ship and deal some damage.
While it’s still a work in progress, Starpoint Gemini 2 already looks so much better than its predecessor. With mods and some random events, it should get a lot more exciting still. That’s definitely not bad for an Early Access game.
