Mojang owner Owen Hill has affirmed that the developer is planning on releasing Minecraft for Playstation 4 and Playstation Vita in either second or third quarter of this year.
Hill did not provide any solid release date, but he did state that both versions will not be released simultaneously.
Yes — we are planning to release on PS4 and Vita at around Q2-Q3 this year. We’re not able to share more specific dates yet though, sorry. We’d rather be vague than disappoint people! They probably won’t be released simultaneously. We’re going to release on each format as soon as it’s ready.
He also stated that users will be able to transfer content from Playstation 3 to Playstation 4, but the development team is still working on how it will work with Playstation Vita version.
We’re still testing PS3-Vita save compatibility, along with a lot of other things. It’s too early to confirm what will or won’t make it in.
While replying to users’ queries on European Playstation Blog, Hill said that they are also working on cross-buy/upgrade possibilities, but nothing is confirmed yet and he doesn’t want to make any false promises.
Though it seems like a possibility that the owners of Digital Version might get a discount of Playstation Vita release.
Since Mojang is busy with PS4 and PS Vita release, maybe this is why we are not hearing anything regarding the Xbox One release. All eyes are set at this year’s E3 which might bring some news.
