Following the PlayStation Network maintenance yesterday, players are now reporting that numerous PlayStation One Classics and PSP titles are available to download and play on the PlayStation Vita.
There is no complete list of titles provided by Sony but through hit and trial, players have confirmed that Vita owners can start playing the Crash and Spyro PS1 titles, Jeanne D’Arc, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, Brave Story, Motorstorm: Arctic Edge, and Phantasy Star Portable 2.
Earlier on, Shuhei Yoshida sent out a helpful Tweet telling Vita owners who wanted to play some PlayStation One titles to hold the PS button to bring up the system menu. Then head into Settings and assign buttons to Analog Sticks.
Yoshida also said that “to play Spyro 1, I assigned R2 to “Right Analog Stick < ” and L2 to “Right Analog Stick >”, so I can control the camera as I usually do.”
Vita owners would be happy to see such a sudden boost to their library of games. There’s actually a real incentive right now to get a Vita.
Expect Sony to drop in an detailed announcement in the coming days, informing us of what titles Vita owners can latch on it and what titles they should expect in the near future. If you found out a game working with your Vita that we haven’t mentioned, feel free to tip us in the comments below.
