Update: While speaking to MCV, Activision has confirmed that it is revising its plans for the Amazing Spiderman 2 on Xbox One.
We want to inform you that we are revising our release plans for ASM2 on Xbox One. When and whether ASM2 is released on Xbox One is TBD.
Original Story: Alright folks, it couldn’t have been more unexpected than this; all of a sudden it looks like The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has been cancelled for Xbox One. Overnight, all references to the upcoming game’s Xbox One version has evaporated into thin air!
Originally, the game was announced for development for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One, iOS and Android. However, it looks like Activision isn’t feeling the love for Microsoft’s new console.
Obviously the news has not been confirmed by Beenox, the developer or Activision but all evidence supports the rumor.
First off, the official website of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 used to have a pre-order option for the Xbox One version of the game along with PC, PS3, PS4, Wii U and Xbox 360 but now the option for Xbox One has been removed.
What’s more, the covers shown on the homepage of the website also used to have one for Xbox One, it is no longer there as well.
To further strengthen the rumors, Amazon UK and EBGames Australia has removed the release dates of the Xbox One version. They still have it up for preordering though. What could this be about; a delay, a cancellation?
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is slated for release to all the announced platforms on April 29, 2014 in North America, April 30, 2014 in Australia and finally on May 2, 2014 in Europe. Would you be mad at the folks behind all this if the game gets cancelled for Xbox One?
