Building simulation Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition will come to retail stores in Europe as a physical release on May 14, 2014. Developer Mojang announced the arrival on the latest Playstation Blog post.
Players could already dive into the blocky adventure through Playstation Network, where Minecraft has been up for sale since the end of last year. It has since grown to over 1.5 million users.
Despite its success, the game also went into the holiday period with some rather pressing issues. Some players reported save file problems that hindered their progress. This has since been resolved.
Since Minecraft is a product that updates frequently, you may wonder what you’ll get out of the box. Everything up to update 14 will be present on your Blu-ray disc, which includes Emeralds, Ender Chests and so on.
No price has been given as of yet, but you can expect it to be similar to the digital release. Currently, the PSN version of Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition costs €18.99.
Together with the Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition retail announcement, Mojang also stated that their Playstation 4 and PS Vita versions are still in the works, despite the delay. These ports are all being produced by developer 4J Studios.
It looks like the retail copy of Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition will be centered on its adventuring spirit and not just the messing around part. Its revealed box art has a spelunking Steve, the protagonist of Minecraft, fully decked out in diamond armor, taking on a horde of bad guys.
