Codemasters, known for its work on popular racing series such as GRID, DIRT and F1, is now working on a new IP.
The news was revealed upon the spotting of a new job listing that is searching for senior and principal programmers to work for an “exciting new IP for digital and console platforms.” The listing also adds that candidates will “join at the very start of the project;” meaning that development is at its very earliest.
There’s no information on what the new game is but from a recent comment of community manager Ben Walke, that was unearthed by Videogamer, Codemasters is pretty bent on focusing on racing titles only. “We’re firmly focused on our racing titles at the moment, no current plans for an FPS,” is what he had said.
Teasing the game a bit, the developer posted this in a blog post: “It’s like the calm before the storm this week, developers are getting builds ready, the PR guys are preparing PR stuff and the Community Team are busy teasing something.
“We’ll be back next week…After taking a look at the weather forecast it looks like we could be in for a storm after all….”
I think a next-gen iteration of DIRT would make the fans go haywire. We’ll know what Codemasters is cooking up next week.
