Although it started off as a hoax, H1Z1 is now the next post -apocalyptic MMO by Sony Online Entertainment! John Smedley, the head of SOE took to Reddit to spill the beans on what we could expect from the game while also asking gamers to advice on the monetization of the game.
He shared a long list of points the shed light on quite a lot about the game and the first thought I got was: is this game’s idea a lot like DayZ, or is it just me thinking? Well, let’s get on with the details.
First off H1Z1 is going to be a free to play game although the early access will cost you $19.99 exactly. There on, Smedley says that they do not want o sell ‘power’ in the game what they actually want to do is make weapons available by crafting or exploration but that is it. Pretty wise.
Wearable items on the other hand are something they plan on monetizing as obviously they are a part of the vanity portion of the game. Again, this is a wise decision as after all, they have to sell something and if that is not going to be primary things like weapons, making people pay for wearable items is a good choice.
We have also been told that at its core, the game is about survival, so they don’t plan to put a price tag on that:
“The game at its core is about survival. Our preference is not to sell ANYTHING that can help with that. If this game is too hard for you play another one. We don’t want to give shortcuts for our core mechanic.”
As far as the advices are concerned, Smedley said no to in-game advertising saying that it doesn’t bring in a lot of revenue however, you won’t have to buy weapons but skins for the same weapons might get sold.
Lastly, there will be pets in H1Z1, and horses and camping!
