During an iPlayWinner’s The Fray Twitch stream, EVO platform’s Co-Founder Joey “Mr.Wizard” Cuellar announced that Tekken Tag Tournament 2 has been added to the list of played games for this year’s EVO 2014. Namco Bandai will also participate in the event as a primary sponsor of the fighting tournament.
Many fans had wondered why 3D Fighters were not in the EVO 2014 line up, after the attention Tekken had garnered during last year’s tournament. Cuellar accredited the decision to Mad Catz’ Mark “MarkMan” Julio for the addition of the game to this year’s Tournament.
Evo 2014 will be held on July 11-13 and includes Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Ultra Street Fighter IV, Injustice: Gods Among US, The King of Fighter XIII, Killer Instinct, Blazblue: Chronopnahtasma, Super Smash Bros. Melee and Tekken Tag Tournament in the fighting game roster.
Last year’s Evo drew in a record breaking 1.7 million viewers to the Official Twitch channel. Twitch’s VP of Marketing stated that the channel’s viewers peaked at 144,848 concurrent viewers for Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 with Super Street Fighter Arcade Edition bringing in 125,000 viewers and Super Smash Bros. Melle drew 134,000 viewers shatterring the previous EVO’s viewer record.
Nintendo had earlier denied Super Smash Bros. Melee to be streamed but reversed their decision a few days before Evo 2013 started.
