Project Morpheus is a ‘Really Bad Idea for Sony’ – Michael Patcher
Sony’s Project Morpheus has gained instant popularity and fans are already excited to see what it will deliver.
However, the man who predicted success for Playstation 4 thinks that Project Morpheus will be a flop and is a ‘really bad idea for Sony’. Yes, I am talking about Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Patcher.
While speaking to Dual Shockers, Patcher stated that there already is a lot of saturation in Virtual Reality market and Sony should not be chasing it!
I think it’s a bad idea for multiple participants to chase it and I think it’s a really bad idea for Sony.
He continued that he has no problem with Oculus Rift since they were the initiators of the project. However, the market is so small that if everyone chases it, no one will be able to make any profit out of it.
I have no problem with the Oculus Rift, that they’re trying it, because they’re a startup and that’s a very small market and if they dominate it that’s great, but if it’s a small market and there are multiple players, it’s gonna be hard for anybody to make money.
Patcher believes that no developer will be interested in making a game for such small audience.
I think it’s chicken and egg. If there’s no content you’re not gonna buy a virtual reality headset, and if you don’t buy a virtual reality headset, there won’t be any content, because no one will make a dedicated game for a very small audience.
However, it is interesting to see that many developers are already developing for Project Morpheus. Just today, Slightly Mad Studios stated that their forthcoming racing game will be one of the first games to support Project Morpheus.
Personally, I have seen Mr. Patcher make similar claims about various projects like Wii, Xbox 360/Playstation 3, and Call of Duty and most of these turned out to be commercial hits.
Would you take Patcher’s predictions as something serious? Let us know in the comments below!
