Redundancies and layoffs are something we have seen before, but this time around Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has taken a larger step and laid-off numerous employees from multiple development studios.

According to a report by Videogamer, UK based studios Guerrilla Cambridge, SCE London Studio and Evolution Studios have been struck by restructuring. As a result, they report, that quite a few of their employees have been made redundant:

Regular reviews take place throughout SCE Worldwide Studios, ensuring that the resources that we have in such a competitive business can create and produce high quality, innovative and commercially viable projects.

As part of this process, we have reviewed and assessed all current projects and have decided to make some changes to some of our European Studios.

As a result of this, there will be a focused restructure within London Studio, Guerrilla Cambridge Studio and Evolution Studio to ensure that the SCE WWS is in the best position to achieve their goals going forward.

Although the total number of layoffs has not been confirmed yet, it is expected that some of them would be the ones working on upcoming titles and/or might have worked on acclaimed games in the past.

For instance, Evolution Studios is currently developing Driveclub for PlayStation 4 while last year Guerilla Cambridge developed Killzone Mercenary. Similarly, Sony Computer Entertainment London Studio has recently completed Playroom.

It is also rumored that SCE London Studio was working on an unannounced title for the PlayStation 4. How do you see the layoffs that might be large in volume? Do you think it will have an impact on Driveclub?
