Massive Entertainment has released a new video of the Snowdrop Engine which will be powering one of the most anticipated next-gen title ‘The Division’. In the video the developers talk about how the engine was created specifically to make the game and how it helps in doing things a lot faster.
However, it should be noted that a lot of things and environment that are shown in the video are not part of the game. They are just there to show the power, variety and technical details of the Snowdrop Engine.
The engine’s node based system provides help for every prospect of the project and can run everything in real time which allows the user an immediate testing.
In Ubisoft’s new blog post the developer explained the creation of engine as:
Snowdrop was created in-house, at Massive, in response to a specific requirement: to do things better, not bigger.
Triple-A game development projects are growing in scope exponentially, so we wanted to be smart and not rely on brute force. We needed an engine that would support how we work in the studio, promote creativity, and allow the freedom to experiment and prototype.
Snowdrop is a dynamic, interconnected and flexible system where developers can create their assets quickly and interact with them in ways that have never been done before.
The information about the Division is pretty scarce right now but the developer has promised that the game will feature some really unexpected features and something innovative. We hope that more information on the project will be announced soon.
For now The Division is scheduled to release in the fall of this year for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
