Diablo 3: reaper of Souls releases tomorrow and in the wake of that, Blizzard’s producer Alex Mayberry has been pretty vocal about their future plans. He first confirmed that Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition Xbox One version was being developed and now he has shown an interest in restarting the development of StarCraft Ghost.
Over a decade ago, Blizzard had announced a third person shooter spin off of their famed StarCraft series called StarCraft Ghost but it got delayed indefinitely. Now, Mayberry not only explained why the game was never made he went on to reveal that it was something that they would like to bring back ‘some day.’
In an interview today he was asked whether they would like to develop StarCraft Ghost now, here’s how he replied:
I think the idea is still perfectly viable. I don’t know if we’ll ever do it but I think it’s something we’d like to do. When we set out to do it originally we were GameCube, PS2 and Xbox and after we shelved that I used to say that at that time we were very ready to make a Blizzard game on consoles but those consoles weren’t ready for a Blizzard game. We just couldn’t quite get what we wanted to do just because of those machines at the time.
Don’t get too excited though, he wasn’t sure if Xbox One and PlayStation 4 could provide with the required technology and also that it might not be anytime soon that they would take another look at it.
Nonetheless, the fact that folks at Blizzard still have the game in their minds as something they want to develop gives us hope to hang on to. How many of you would still be interested in StarCraft Ghost?
