Publisher Konami announced a PES Virtual UEFA Champions League for Pro Evolution Soccer 2014. This competition will kick off in Europe on March 26, 2014.
It’s the first time this tie between game and organization is put through a tourney, as Konami proclaims it has the only football game to use the UEFA Chapions League as a dedicated game mode. That’s an oddly specific reference to make.
Yet more specific is that the PES Virtual UEFA Champions League will only be accessible for Playstation 3 players of PES 2014, despite the game also being released for Xbox 360 and PC. Ok, it’s technically also available for PSP and Playstation 2, but let’s say that the dominant platforms would be a better fit.
Still, playing in the competition is free and registration for it has gone live already, in lieu of the start on March 26. Matches will be calculated automatically and the data from it will be collected through Konami’s online game data. Results will come up on the league’s leaderboards.
Prizes for the PES Virtual UEFA Champions League include a cool €25,000 in cash prizes, as well as memorabilia from the UEFA league and a chance to attend the finals in Lisbon. Official partners, like Playstation, will throw up some goodies as well.
There’s also a separate Youth League PES event planned for this tournament. This will start off on March 28, 2014 and a showdown will be hosted in Nyon, Switzerland on April 11 and April 14 for the semi-finals and the final respectively.
