In case you were hoping that Epic Games would come up and announce a new Unreal Tournament title, you have got it wrong folks. The developer has announced that currently there is no game for the series in development with them.
Same as it has been with other major areas that needed attention, the Game Developers Conference 2014 has brought news regarding Unreal Tournament too. It’s just that it is not what you would have otherwise expected.
Tim Sweeney, the founder of Epic Games was at the conference where he told CVG about their development plans and preferences:
We’re not [planning on] shipping an Unreal Tournament game. We have a lot of nostalgia for the game but we’re actually not developing anything in the Unreal game universe at all at the moment. We’ve announced Fortnite… That’s a game we’ll be talking about later. We don’t have anything to show you here at GDC. We’re developing that project and there are several other projects that aren’t announced yet that are being developed with Unreal Engine 4.
The multiplayer first person shooter series has been long dormant and there still is a community that is looking forward to see more from it. On the other hand, the developer looks quite busy with other titles. Let’s just hope that the next Unreal Tournament game gets laddered up on their list of priorities.
How many of you would want to see the next Unreal Tournament game on the latest generation of consoles?
