Indie developer Zeboyd is developing a classy retro styled role-playing game for the Xbox One: Cosmic Star Heroine. Among the community, it is being regarded as one of the most promising games announced in this batch of Xbox One’s independent games through ID@Xbox.
The lead character is Alyssa L’Salle, a secret agent who is more of an ass-kicker than a lady. The plot is that she gets outed by her own government, and now she has everything up against her, including aliens, hackers and more. Your objective is nothing short of saving the galaxy.
Bill Stiernberg of Zeboyd believes that the dystopian world depicted in the game and classic 2D styled visuals were some of the most important facets of the game that they wanted to convey; and he goes on to say:
When we started Zeboyd games, we had this basic idea for the company to make retro-styled RPGs that use interesting mechanics and streamlined gameplay.
With Cosmic Star Heroine, we really want to make a game that truly reflects the classic late 16-bit, early 32-bit era of RPGs that inspired us to start this studio in the first place.
We really want to push the level of detail and scope beyond what we’ve been able to do in our past games.
Cosmic Star Heroine was originally planned for PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, PC, Mac and Linux; but then it was announced in December 2013 that it will also be released to Xbox One – thanks to the indie games program of Microsoft.
You may read up more about it from the game’s Kickstarter page. There is no release date specified for Cosmic Star Heroine yet.
