Massively multiplayer online (MMO) game World of Tanks will hold a special event called Map Madness for its console version. Players will be encouraged to be active during the period between March 18 and March 24, 2014.
World of Tanks: Xbox 360 Edition will require its community to get cracking by killing tanks. That’s really the only objective. Destroying more players will unlock new locations to play the game in.
Upon 10 million tanks destroyed, the urban Lakeville map will join the roster. This area will center itself on finding cover and weaving through buildings.
When the event racks up 25 million tanks in total, El Halluf will be unlocked as well. Not surprisingly, the name lends itself to a more desert-like location.
Finally, the top prize is set for Prokhorovka, which will appear after 40 million tanks have been destroyed. This map was previously already available on the original PC release of World of Tanks.
Prokhorovka is the top price as it has already shown its popularity in the main version of the game. It’s also highly used in Wargaming’s own eSports range.
Despite the company’s focus on free-to-play designs, World of Tanks: Xbox 360 Edition is only as free as it can possibly be on Microsoft’s platform. Since games require an additional Xbox Live subscription, this free-for-all is still, technically, a paid thing.
Maybe the Map Madness event is a way for Wargaming to get people to experience World of Tanks: Xbox 360 Edition after all. Otherwise, just stick to the free PC version, as it has millions of users. You’ll find a match to fit into without worries.
