The matter of the future of Xbox division at Microsoft has been the topic of a heated debate in the recent days. There were reports that the new management, under Satya Nadella, might let go off Xbox due to multiple reasons. This worried quite a lot of us, but thankfully, someone at Microsoft has come up to restore the faith.
Phil Spencer, the Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Game Studios was discussing how the new management looks at Xbox division at his SXSW Gaming panel. He believes that the company’s dedication towards Xbox is the same as it used to be before.
He elaborated on his stance, for the glee of all the Xbox fans, by saying that he knew Satya Nadella and Stephen Elop (head of Xbox) very well. He said that on the basis of the discussions that he has had with both of them regarding the future of the Xbox division, he could clearly say that both of them are ‘extremely committed to Xbox.’
Xbox is a really critical brand for us as a company as Microsoft; when you think about consumers, what they love about our company, Xbox is one of the most beloved brands that the company has.
We’re in the middle of a good, competitive battle in the console space with PlayStation, which is great for the industry. And they remain extremely committed to us succeeding with Xbox, which is nice to hear, right?
It’s something that resonates well inside the walls when you’re talking to the teams, or when I stand in front of Xbox fans, I want to make sure that they understand we are extremely committed to this product.
What do you think? Is the Xbox division here to stay?
