Developer ACE Team revealed their work on a new game called Abyss Odyssey. Previously, the studio worked on the Zeno Clash series and Atlus game Rock of Ages.
For Abyss Odyssey, it will once more team up with publisher Atlus. They’ll work towards bringing this project to market in the summer of 2014.
Going with the times, this title offers a series of procedurally generated levels in a side-scrolling universe. Moreover, it employs roguelike qualities of infinite gameplay and replay possibilities.
Levels will go ever downward into a pit, where players can encounter different monsters, pathways and merchants. In between, they’ll need to fight for their life.
Abyss Odyssey has a strong focus on combat. Each enemy possesses a unique move set, comparable to that of the adventurer. Finding a weakness in defense is the key to defeating foes.
Aside from studying patterns, the fighting mechanism will also require skill. Brawls may require dodge cancels and other moves to succeed.
Additionally, each creature slain can be captured. In turn, this allows the player to transform and use the abilities of the enemy.
This combat focus is similar to what ACE Team previously offered in the odd, warped Zeno Clash fighters. Here, action was comprised of diverse melee elements.
It looks like Abyss Odyssey will use a bit of style from the previous projects as well. The 3D models receive a distinctive color scheme and thick outlines.
ACE Team introduces the game in a short gameplay reveal. We get to see a fight with a skeleton and the absorption of a defeated enemy.
Abyss Odyssey will release for PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
