Gabe Newell, the famed President, CEO and Owner of Valve Corporation was supposed to hold an AMA (Ask Me Anything) session on Reddit yesterday. Due to unforeseen reasons people had to wait for an extra day for it. As it happens, the information he shared was worth it.
Now before you start jumping because you heard rumors regarding a Half Life 3 reveal, let us tell you nothing like that happened today.
There are other interesting chunks of news though; for instance, they have plans of making Steam a self publishing system and that Valve’s VR is not ‘light years ahead’ of Oculus Rift.
Gabe Newell was asked by a user regarding the improvements that we could expect in the Source 2 Engine; to which he said Valve is focusing purely on productivity right now:
The biggest improvements will be in increasing productivity of content creation. That focus is driven by the importance we see UGC [User Generated Content] having going forward. A professional developer at Valve will put up with a lot of pain that won’t work if users themselves have to create content.
Another interesting thing that came up was a question regarding Ricochet 2’s announcement – the apparent sequel that is often used to talk about Half Life 3.
Newell said that there have been times in the past when they made announcements a long time in advance and then were late on delivering them. He said that he didn’t want to do that in this case, and that is why the game hasn’t been announced yet.
There is a lot more, hit up on the Reddit page to read everything that Valve Corporation’s spearhead, Gabe Newell answered.
