Microsoft Job Listing Reveals Plans for New Open Source Framework for Gaming
A new job listing has been spotted that suggests Microsoft is planning to create a new open source framework for gaming that will make it easier for developers to develop and port their games to Microsoft’s and other platforms.
According to the job description, Microsoft is in search for a Software Development Engineer who will work on “gaming technologies” and “will collaborate with both internal partner teams across the company and external ecosystem partners to enable end-to-end gaming scenarios.”
When materialized, the new framework is said to be open source, light-weight, extensible and scalable across various platforms including Windows Store, Windows Phone, iOS and Android.”
The description lays bare the goal of Microsoft, which is to “win back our game developers from our competitors.” This could very well be the the new vision of the recently appointed Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. The company is looking to get its services live across all kinds of products without any limitations and barriers for both developers and consumers.
Facilitating iOS and Android game developers is certainly a new strategy for the firm, who until now had seen bent on running in its own circles.
