Italian indie studio MixedBag today announced its side-scrolling exploration adventure title forma.8 to release on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.
Marked as the studio’s take on the classic Metroidvania style, forma.8 is a small exploration probe which is stranded on an alien planet in a distant future. Its mission is to find and recover a powerful energy source that lies deep under the surface.
The game has been in development for more than two years and uses hand-drawn vector graphics that are mixed with 3D elements.
“We rendered everything at the highest resolution possible, with a massive amount of antialiasing to get a very clean and crisp look,” stated the studio. MixedBag also confirmed the game to be running in full 1080p with 60 fps.
Writing on the PlayStation Blog, studio co-founder Mauro Fanelli said that players start the game with literally nothing but their ability to control the probe. From here on players must explore the planet themselves, with its often hostile inhabitants, and slowly uncover the story.
