Warner Bros. has announced today that the upcoming Middle-earth inspired Lego: The Hobbit installment will release on April 8 in North America and April 11 in Europe. It will do so simultaneously for all platforms: PC, Mac, 3DS, Wii U, PS3, PS4, Vita, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
Lego: The Hobbit will be based on the first two Peter Jackson films that were in turn based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy adventure. The third and final film of the trilogy, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, will release in theaters on December 17, 2014. It’s unsure as to how Warner plans to cover the third movie. Perhaps a DLC later on or another title altogether?
Previously the publisher confirmed that players would be able to take on the role of many characters from the movies, including Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf, Thorin and his many dwarves and more. Together they will team up to complete tasks, such as reaching hiring ground to obtain treasure and taking down particularly difficult enemies, as well as explore the northern wilds of Middle-earth as they journey to reclaim the mountain of Erebor, Thorin’s homeland, from Smaug the dragon.
A special PlayStation 3 bundle featuring the game will also be released alongside this spring. The bundle will feature a 500 GB system and a copy of the game for just $269.
