‘Dean Hall’ Leader of DayZ Standalone to Leave Bohemia at the End of the Year
Creator of incredibly popular DayZ, Dean Hall has announced that he will be leaving the sandbox project and create a new team in his hometown of New Zealand.
In an interview with Eurogamer Dean hall said:
I am a grenade and I have a specific use. I’m really good at risk-taking and making other people take risks, I’ve always been good at that in my life. Like you say, maybe I’ve got the gift of the gab, so I can talk, I can explain something, and I can talk people up to the ledge and get them to jump off it.
That’s what I did with DayZ; I’ve done it twice now [once with the mod, again with the standalone] – two new code teams have separately done it.
Dean Hall has done a great job with the project but now he feels that continuing down the same path might prove to be a disaster for the project and he didn’t want to work here in the first place:
I never intended to be here and it’s kind of like cooking in someone else’s kitchen: I don’t want to be constantly telling Bohemia that this is how I do it and this is the way we do it.
Hall said that his mind is completely set to leaving the company at the end of the year and nothing can change that now but he will not leave the game at a crucial time.
I won’t leave DayZ in the lurch – won’t leave at a crucial time. I would extend my involvement here as long as Bohemia needed me.
With DayZ facing a lot of issues you can expect that Dean Hall won’t be leaving Bohemia anytime soon.
