Gearbox Overspent on Homeworld but it was Worth it – Pitchford

CEO of Gearbox said that they overspent on remakes of Homeworld series but all that money spent will be put to good use.

Aside from the plans of bringing Homeworld and Homeworld 2 to “today’s leading digital platforms”. There hasn’t been much news regarding Homeworld since Gearbox Software acquired the franchise from THQ last year.

Finally the developer has decided to break the silence on the franchise. In an interview with Polygon CEO of Gearbox Software Randy Pitchford said:

So we invested a lot to remaster the original Homeworld and Homeworld 2. We’ll be releasing them on digital platforms in fully remastered — not just ported to work, but fully remastered. If you have a new crazy-ass Nvidia 780TI or an Nvidia Titan and you happen to have one of those $3,000 4K monitors, you’re going to see an unbelievable image

We went nuts in the high-definition treatment on this, It’s really UHD, not just HD. That’s too low. We got with the original audio guys and remastered all the audio. It’s really impressive.

Great news for the fans of the game as they finally have something to cheer about. Although financial motivations likely played a role in Gearbox acquiring Homeworld, a lot of it had to do with Brian Martel, the company’s Chief Creative Officer, being a huge fan of the game.

Randy Pitchford said about him:

He’s overspent because he wants to right by his own interest in the property

Although things are looking up good for the remastering of Homeworld 1 and 2, there is still no official release date yet.
