Valve to Premier an E-Sport Movie Called “Free-to-Play” on March 19

Valve wants to premiere a feature length documentary on March 19th, which will put the life of the world’s top e-sports players in the spotlight. The documentary is called Free-to-Play.

Valve said:

FREE TO PLAY is a feature-length documentary that follows three professional gamers from around the world as they compete for a million dollar prize in the first Dota 2 International Tournament. In recent years, E Sports has surged in popularity to become one of the most widely-practiced forms of competitive sport today.

A million dollar tournament changed the landscape of the gaming world and for those elite players at the top of their craft, nothing would ever be the same again. Produced by Valve, the film documents the challenges and sacrifices required of players to compete at the highest level.

The film will be screened on March 18th, a day before its official release date at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco, CA. Tickets of the documentary can be purchased on Eventbrite.

Valve has also announced that on March 19th, they will be launching the Dota 2 Free-to-Play Competitor’s Pack on the Steam and Dota 2 store of which 25% of sales will be distributed to the players and contributors involved in the making of Free-to-Play.

The pack will include the following:

  • hyhy’s Doom Set – Created by Vermillion Wlad
  • Dendi’s Pudge Set – Created by Danidem, Bronto ϟ Thunder
